The Fifth
Business implements HiSoftware
Company's digital media captioning
software, Hi-Caption DS2
Concord, NH August
20, 2004 – HiSoftware Company
announced today that the multi media
team for “The Fifth Business” (http://www.fifthbusiness.com/site/about_us.htm),
a ten-year-old staff-based technology
engagement consultancy located in the
US and Europe, is using Hi-Caption
from HiSoftware to create synchronized
multimedia captioning for their Web
content. Hi-Caption DS2 is a digital
media suite, which provides
accessibility testers worldwide with a
comprehensive solution for managing
captioning of their multimedia
projects, and the accessibility of
their Flash presentations, in complete
conformance with standards mandated by
Section 508 of the federal
government's Rehabilitation Act, as
well as the international
accessibility guidelines set forth by
the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
The Fifth Business
joins a growing list of customers
turning to HiSoftware Company for
accessibility solutions, including but
not limited to Microsoft Government,
Mercury Interactive, CommerceOne, the
Internal Revenue Service, US Army
Materiel Command, and Department of

The Multimedia
Group at the Fifth Business creates
exciting and innovative
graphically-engaging solutions for
their clients. In communications and
marketing, online support, coaching or
e-learning materials, their multimedia
designers deliver exceptional designs
and business-focused multimedia
solutions - using state-of-the-art
tools and widely-accepted learning
design principles. The Fifth Business
is committed to creating captioned
content for the Web, and has been
researching technologies that will
allow for cost-effective and timely
creation of accessible multimedia
content.
“Prior to our
implementation of Hi-Caption,
captioning multimedia was a labor
intensive and time consuming task,”
said Jeff Peoples, Streaming Media
Webmaster, The Fifth Business. “Now
that we are utilizing Hi-Caption, web
producers can quickly and easily add
synchronized captions to the media
files allowing for an improved user
experience and full Section 508
compliance. We are very happy with the
results.”
Section 508 of the
Rehabilitation Act Amendments mandates
that federal agencies ensure that all
electronic and information
technologies purchased, maintained or
developed meet the accessibility
standards established by the U.S.
Access Board. Although federally
mandated, state governments and
private organizations can also benefit
by adhering to these standards, which
enable access and usability by the
widest possible audience.
HiSoftware’s content quality and
accessibility solutions product line
includes a combination of user-driven
interactive desktop solutions that
allow developers to test their content
for conformance with standards, and
server-side applications that provide
managers with automated and remote
testing. A scalable architecture
provides a faster deployment time and
lower cost of ownership for the
solution set. Used together these
solutions enable developers, testers
and project teams to verify Web site
accessibility in compliance with
Section 508, as well as Custom
corporate-content quality standards.

applications is available from the
