Hi-Caption™ 2.0
Provides Advanced Captioning Options and
Enables Enterprise Collaboration for
Multimedia Teams
New release of Hi-Caption provides
native support for Windows® Media Player
and RealNetworks® RealPlayer®
Concord, NH —May 6, 2003 -
HiSoftware, Inc. today announced the
release of Hi-Caption version 2.0 which
will provide accessibility testers and
multimedia content creators worldwide
with a comprehensive solution for
managing the captioning for their
multimedia projects; in complete
conformance with standards mandated by
Section 508 of the federal government's
Rehabilitation Act, as well as the
international accessibility guidelines
set forth by the World Wide Web
Consortium (W3C). The latest release of
Hi-Caption enables multimedia developers
to work collaboratively with team
members on advanced captioning through
project mode support. It also allows
adds native support for RealOne Player
presentations to its previous support
for Windows Media presentations and
enables captioning of files accessed
from the Internet in addition to the
local file system. Project support now
allows for completion of extensive
captioning projects over several
sessions.
Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act
Amendments mandates that federal
agencies ensure that all electronic and
information technologies purchased,
maintained or developed meet the
accessibility standards established by
the U.S. Access Board. Although
federally mandated, state governments
and private organizations can also
benefit by adhering to these standards,
which enable access and usability by the
widest possible audience.
In order for multimedia to be
accessible under Section 508 Rule (b)
and W3C WCAG 1.0 Priority 1 checkpoint
1.4, developers must create synchronized
captioning for their multimedia files.
Hi-Caption allows for fast efficient
creation, editing, and testing of the
captioning of Multimedia. The captioning
file is stored in a SAMI file or a SMIL
file. These files are very similar to
HTML, but are different languages. Just
as you would rather use a web editor to
create web files, this program allows
you to easily create the formatted
captioning files without having to learn
the code behind them. The software also
supports captioning multimedia files in
multiple languages so that they audience
may select and view captioning in the
language of their choice.
Hi-Caption 2.0 provides users with
the ability to create, test and mange
captioning for their Windows Media,
RealOne Player and QuickTime
productions. Features include but are
not limited to the following:
- Load & edit existing SAMI/SMIL
files
- View videos & captions within the
program allowing you to easily create
and test your captioning
- Add multiple languages for your
file at once

Full Section 508, CLF, and any derived
from WCAG (Related to MultiMedia)
